  1. Hi Adrienne-

You really did a great job with your Storify curation. I particularly enjoyed reading about how you supported your team in your digital leadership position.

When you speak about page views, are you referring to the total? It isn’t really fair to compare one to another in total, because the first post would have the advantage of time. In other words, people would continue viewing your first post while the others are posted.

You didn’t mention Twitter as a referring site. Isn’t t.co a Twitter URL?

I don’t see any mention of Pinterest as a referring site. Pinterest did not show up in my results either. What do you think we could have done differently?

    Once again, great job!

  2. Hi Susan - Thanks for your feedback!

I speak about both total page views (which yes - is a measurement overtime) and pageviews of the individual blogs. Since each entry has their own permalink, that's how the individual post's page views are measured. For example - you could navigate to my old "Sunday Funday" post - without viewing my most recent "Storify" post.

You're right - I didn't mention Twitter as a referring site - and t.co is a twitter URL. Thanks for that - good catch :) I think it's a great proof point for the success of integrating twitter into my blogging strategy - I tweeted nearly every day over the course of the blogging period.

Pinterest was not one of my referring sites - As integrated as it was in my blog - there was a stream of my pins on my blog sidebar, and I was tweeting out all of my pins using#com610 - people weren't going from Pinterest, to my blog.

I think a better way to integrate would have been to share pins directly on the blog, as a blog entry. Offering up some context - such as why a particular inforgraphic was helpful / what it means in a particular industry - would have been a better way to use Pinterest. I didn't see a lot of guidance in the books around specific Pinterest strategies, and since we were all supposed to be pinning to a class board, in addition to a personal board - I think it was too removed from the content (on the blog) to prompt people to cross over.

What do you (and others) think? Has anyone seen Pinterest as a referring site?

    1. Adrienne,

First, thank you for your help on my blog. I'm determined to figure this out, and you have certainly pointed me in the proper direction!

You did a nice job of including your non-required posts in the Storify while still relating them back to your overall objectives in the course.

To answer your (and Susan's) question, I also didn't see Pinterest as a referral site on my blog when using Blogger stats, but I did see it when using Google Analytics (which I haven't added to my blog yet). Still, very few hits (<10) were sent to my blog by way of Pinterest; I have a variety of theories as to why that is, but for me one of them is simply that I didn't do as much Pinterest promotion (I think you did more than me).

I don't think you've answered this yet, but are you going to update your stats and overall analysis after this week's post? I think that would be beneficial, time permitting, for your analysis section.

    2. Hi Kait - to answer your question - I had planned on updating my stats based on this week's discussion. I put in a "Week 7" placeholder, but didn't go into many details around it. Perhaps this will be the week Pinterest takes off! :)

  3. My only point about total page views is that the one that blog that has been up the longest would most likely have the most posts because it had a longer exposure.

I am glad to be of help re the Twitter referrals! : )

That's a fun suggestion regarding the use of Pinterest on the blogs. I am curious to see if anyone else had more luck with it.

    Again, really nice job!

  4. Hi Adrienne,

Really nice application of the power of Storify. I have two comments.

    (1) I feel as though you might have curated too many examples of your activities and posts. There is a lot if sampling going on and reporting of what you did, but not as much tie-in to strategy, etc. that you were pursuing. More of a "what I did" than a "why I did" format.

    (2) In your analysis section, I again think you've done well reporting your activity, but I don't think there is enough evidence of how you used the data to improve the blog -- which would get you the highest result given the project's rubric. Was there correlation between certain social media promotions you did versus others that drove traffic, or didn't? Answering that question and others like it might make strengthen your story.

    1. Hi Mike - thanks for your feedback. Both comments are very helpful.

To answer your Q1 - I think I struggled with the "why I did" more than anything. The blog entries that recieved the most comments were ones that were required for the course, and students were required to post / comment on them. It was considerable work keeping up with the requirements - without trying to create & drive "net-new" content. I didn't feel like I had the opportunity (or - frankly - time) to post entries that I had chosen / created - I was too busy keeping up with the required work (forums). Does this make sense? :)

Yes - there is certainly an argument to be made that the "why I did" is around how I promoted the blog - which platforms I chose to promote the content on and why. And you're right - I should include more of that in the analysis section. However - a lot of the "strategy" was already built into the course. My target audience was students in the class - and they (again - to meet the requirements) had to answer / comment.

I'm not complaining, or trying to sound negative - I got a lot out of the blogging experience. I'm just trying to be a objective about the entire project (as a whole) as possible.

Would love to hear your thoughts - as well as other readers - about how you found the process of engaging your audience. Did anyone see comments from people outside of the class on their blog?

    2. I think you could probably define your motive behind most of your efforts. A video would promote longer engagement, links would improve SEO and credibility, color treatment could improve comprehension, etc.

  5. Hi Adrienne -

I think you make some great points about challenges around the "why I did" as - after all - we were posting based on class assignments. In my Storify, I talked a lot about content and why I chose unique angles for each assignment based on my known audience and professional background. For example, I tried to apply key learnings about large-scale PR campaigns and sports marketing whenever possible, as I know that it's my speciality and something that would help me to stand apart from many other blogs on the same topic. Did you have any underlying theme or strategy that took each post beyond the assignment? Your posts were always super engaging and thought-provoking, so I'm sure you could write more about your personal unique style that contribued to the success of your blog. Hope that helps!

    1. Hi Kristen - thanks for your feedback! You bring up a great point - what is the "style" / theme of how I was writing my blog.

My 9 - 5 job is all internal - to keep the description simple - I'm a junior speech writer for an SVP. Part of my responsibility is helping to blog, and keep up the "social" conversation for our business unit. I tried to stay away from bringing any of the gorpy, techincal stuff into my blog, especially since there are already hundereds (literally) of IBM-based / owned platforms. But thinking about how to take a lot of these external "best practices" could be translated into internal work is a great idea! Thanks!

  6. Adrienne, you really did a great job on your Storify outline. You helped me figure out what path I need to be on. I love the way you incorporated Facebook and tweets about your group into your social media practices. How did you decide on what angle to take when using the social media sites to bring in views?

    1. Hi Angela - Thanks for your comments! I'm not sure what you mean by "angle" - I just tried to share my information in a funny, light-hearted way - even if the posts were more content heavy. I've found that if your promotions (tweets, pins, FB posts - the things that are driving folks to the real content on your blog) are more like headlines - or "hooks" - people are more likely to click on them. I also included popular hashtags to make sure my posts were coming up in searches on those platfoms.

Not sure if that counts as an "angle" - but that was part of my thinking!

  7. Hey Adrienne,

Thanks so much for posting a link to your Storify paper so far. I am pretty apprehensive about putting mine together because I have never used the site before. I have watched the tutorial but I am still not sure if I quite have it down yet. Is it difficult?

I think your paper looks really good! The only thing I really saw was perhaps adding a blurb in the policies section. Other than that I thought it was readable and informative.

    1. Hi Michele - It's not difficult, though you will have to play around with it a bit to get the hang of it, and do things quickly. I used it for a few work assignements (you can see them if you look at my entire profile - asabiliaAR)

The site policies are sort of self-explainatory - but I can include a line of context if you think that would help.

    2. I would echo Michele's sentiments. Having your Storify paper online early certainly helps the rest of us who could use a guide.
